2006 Oscar Picks
OSCAR PICKS
Really quickly have to post my Oscar picks before heading to work. I promise a more in depth analysis after the show -- late tonight, or early tomorrow. Wanna win your Oscar pool? Here's your winners.
Best Picture - So much of me wants to say "Crash," if only because it means "Brokeback" won't win. Unfortunately, I don't believe that "Crash" will win firmly enough to pick it. "Brokeback Mountain" wins.
Best Actor - Philip Seymour Hoffman
Best Actress - Reese Witherspoon (absolutely deserving)
Best Supporting Actor - George Clooney (or in a major upset, Gyllenhaal)
Best Supporting Actress - Rachel Weisz
Best Director - Ang Lee (anybody claiming any different is a fucking moron)
Best Adapted Screenplay - "Brokeback Mountain"
Best Original Screenplay - "Crash"
Animated Feature - "Wallace & Gromit"
Art Direction - "Memoirs of a Geisha"
Cinematography - "Brokeback Mountain"
Costumes - "Memoirs of a Geisha"
Documentary Feature - "March of the Penguins"
Documentary Short Subject - "Death of Kevin Carter"
Film Editing - "Crash" ("Cinderella Man" deserves it more)
Foreign Language Film - "Tsotsi" ("Paradise Now" = too strong and controversial)
Make-up - "Star Wars Ep.III"
Original Score - "Brokeback Mountain" (gawd, I can hear the fucking strumming already)
Original Song - "In the Deep" from "Crash" (whatever, though, cause it'll be great to hear Three-Six on the "Oscars" regardless)
Short Film (animated) - "One Man Band" from Pixar (although I hear "9" is a strong second, and it's the only one I've seen to confirm that status)
Short film (live action) - "Our Time Is Up"
Sound Mixing - "Walk the Line"
Visual Effects - "King Kong"
P.S. If "Crash" loses the scripting award, be prepared for that Best Picture upset. Or at least get ready for a possible "I told ya so" from yours truely.
